I was a Lubars client way back when. He could certainly have pulled that with us! He could take an entire recalcitrant sales force and wrap them around his little finger. But that was at LMLK. He called the shots.

Mike:<br>My new favorite post from you. Brilliantly well written and a killer close at the end. Great story. Too bad those days are gone. Not even Alex or Jeff or Lubars can get away with that any more and nor would their parent company ever support them. In fact, in all likelihood the call would go to the parent company who would offer up any solution the client would buy, including a bakeoff among all the agencies, etc. As for the other George lessons re get attention or it "ain't worth shit," we all know that. The thing that makes life interesting today is that since fewer and fewer people are paying attention in the same place at the same time, we need not only a slew of attention getting ideas, we need to motivate consumers to generate them for us. That is what conversation and social and viral etc. are all about. We may or may not be in the business of communication anymore. But we are in the business of getting people's attention and encouraging them to get the attention of their audiences and communities. Great post. Good story.
